The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! Really?

18 10 2015

Having told my wife to be left alone was more to rediscover myself than to show my displeasure over trivial nothings.

Trudging myself over the stone pavement, looking back on my rearview memories, almost stumbled upon an interesting scene, where not so long ago Dr Beri, my family Doctor and a very close friend called me over, for he had some alliance come over for his daughter. While Anila was an independent girl dressed always with a complete professional setup, it was an amazing spread of foodstuff that was laid out in front. Anila, as I knew of her has always had her choices of partner firmed and cemented in her mind, nothing less-nothing more..simply perfect. After all why shouldn’t she? She was all about success, self reliance and smart too, contrary to guys who always had “sex” on their mind. Few minutes into the conversation, the moment Anila stepped out to share the spread that I realised, it was all done by her. Berdoc, that’s what I called him, proclaimed “dil tak ka darwaaza pet se guzaarta hai” and hence the spread to win over a guys heart. Really?

Anila’s eyes twitched in disapproval, prompted us to buy some time. Anila joined me on the morning walk subsequent day. Instantaneously prompting me of things searching for my solutions.

I don’t have to please anyone to get married! Why should “I know to cook” be a criteria to get married? Anila was firing on all cylinders, and all I could do, was to douse that volume down. Prodding her I realised, it ain’t easy for a professional girl to be accepted in a family, that too only because she could cook well! My foot! She yelled, literally stomping on my canvas shoes.

Anila has always being an independent girl, born to professional parents has always had her head over her shoulders. From looking after her nana nani to improving systems and processes at her parents clinic, she won over everyone with her approach. Our conversation went on eating into our morning walk, sitting aside on the wooden bench she said something that I can never ever forget. A statement filled with attitude and a flavour of practicality.

Why should “the journey to a man’s heart goes through the stomach? The journey should go the head via the wallet”. It took me a while to figure it out myself. As time swam by us, we had reached our house, i was still drenched in Anila’s thought.

Deciphering and dwelling deeper, I realised the depth. It took a genius like Anila to open me up to realise how having sound financial planning helps one be sane rather than being rich. Looking around today, weren’t suicides and defaults happening due to money? Aren’t families breaking up due to disparities in incomes amongst couples? The loud answers were creating the correct chaos in my ears.

I had reached that moment where i knew, it’s only a pocket (wallet) which leads us to a sound mind, a sound mind which harmonises everything around self.

My thoughts want me to search for more Anila’s, alas I need to reach back to get my own head in place.
